Manoogian Teacher, Project Approved for Grant

Southfield, MI – A.G.B.U. Alex & Marie Manoogian School teacherMarlene Baker and her project, “History Through Pictures,” were approved for a 2004 School, Home, & Office Products Association (SHOPA) Kids in Need Teachers Grant.

In February, using the $500 worth of grant money, Baker’s seventh-graders will take pictures and make scrapbooks showing how the past affects their lives and how certain events influence the course of history. The
project ends in May 2005.

The mission of the SHOPA Foundation, founded in 1991, is to recognize, promote, and support initiatives that foster educational excellence. The grants provide K-12 teachers, like Baker, with funding to help them achieve their educational goals through innovative learning opportunities for their students.

Teacher grants range from $100 to $500 each and are used to finance creative classroom projects. Typically, 160 to 170 grants are awarded each year by the SHOPA Foundation.
